Communication and Marketing Manager

Our Village United, Inc. is a non-profit organization based in Atlanta, GA, that serves small business owners across the country. We are currently looking for a Communication and Marketing Manager to oversee and improve all of our communication channels both internally and externally. We are searching for an enthusiastic and skilled communications and marketing professional that can effectively communicate the inspiring work that Our Village United, Inc. does and has excellent storytelling abilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Propose and implement communication and marketing strategies to achieve organizational goals and objectives. This includes collaboration with the organization’s CEO and/or Executive Management Team as well as other cross-functional teams.
  • Provide oversight and collaboration with third party vendors, particularly the organization’s advertising agency.
  • Adhere to all organizational brand usage guidelines, including developing brand guidelines and templates.
  • Develop innovative brand guidelines and templates.
  • Develop and manage content (Web, print, PPT, Social Media and other) that best conveys key messages and meets business goals of organization.
  • Develop and manage content to the organization’s current and future social media channels (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube and emerging networks).
  • Ensure that communications are ethical and respectful and avoid potential harm or misinformation. 
  • Collaborate with other teams, such as fundraising, program management, and operations, to ensure communication efforts are holistic and integrated. 
  • Participate in ongoing strategic conversations with the CEO and the Board (as necessary) to advance the mission and vision of Our Village United, Inc.
  • Media Relations: Serve as the primary spokesperson and media contact for AWBI, ensuring media and public understanding of Our Village United, Inc, mission, strategies, and impact. 
  • Content Development & Delivery: Oversee the development and dissemination of all OVU communication materials, including press releases, annual reports, newsletters, and digital content.  
  • Crisis Management: Lead crisis communications planning and response, ensuring that potential threats to the organization's reputation are effectively addressed and mitigated.  
  • Digital and Social Media Strategy: Lead efforts to maximize OVU's presence across various digital platforms, effectively engaging audiences, building community, and amplifying our impact.  
  • Message Development: Shape, refine, and communicate OVU's narrative and messages to diverse audiences, positioning the organization as a leading voice in the realm of building Black wealth. 
  • Brand Management: Oversee and ensure consistent branding across all communication channels and platforms. 
  • Special Events: Design and conceptualize events that align with the organization's mission, values, and fundraising goals. This includes setting objectives for the event, and determining its format, size, and other logistical details. 
  • Monitoring and Analytics: Monitor, analyze, and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies, making data-informed adjustments as necessary. 
    Additional Requirements:
  • Develop, Maintain and manage content calendar. 
  • Manage and review content for organization’s public-facing website, update with fresh content on a regular basis.
  • Develop and implement a newsletter strategy for internal and external audiences.
  • Actively pitch story ideas about the organization to local, regional and national media outlets as appropriate.
  • Select message appropriate media. Ensure integration of content across different media.
  • Track, measure and report effectiveness of communication programs, marketing campaigns and events.
  • Identify stakeholders and target audiences, and encourage engagement. Develop and maintain relationships with appropriate constituency groups. Represent the organization at various events, on committees, at meetings, etc., as appropriate. Work with a variety of individuals and groups across the organization in a constructive and civil manner.
  • Assist in budget development for organizational marketing and communications efforts and provide projections and recommendations.
  • Use existing resources and skills to achieve or exceed desired outcomes of current and future organizational goals and needs.
  • Meet or exceed customer service needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service in a direct and/or indirect manner.

Skills and Knowledge
    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, social/digital communications or related field preferred. Comparable education and experience will be considered.
    • Requires demonstrated experience with print and digital publishing, social media platforms and developing presentations using various software
    • Excellent writing and grammar skills and general communications abilities written and verbal are required (a writing sample may be requested)
    • Excellent analytical skills for tracking, measuring and reporting.
    • Experience working with a health care or social service agency preferred.
    • Requires a high level of personal and professional integrity and accountability.
    • Superior judgment, negotiation and decision-making skills.
    • Strong analytical skills and adept in interpreting strategic vision into an operation model.
    • An exceptional communicator at all levels in the organization, with strong oral, written and persuasive skills.
Knowledge of:

Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in web design and content production is a big plus
  • MA in public relations, communications, or similar relevant field.

Additional Details
Pay rate: $55,,000- 65,000 per year (based on experience)
Hours per week: 40 hours
Shift Schedule: Monday through Friday, with some Night and Weekend shifts
Location: Atlanta, GA
The position requires travel.
Hybrid: OVU
is currently operating under a hybrid work policy with three required days in office and two remote days.
